Share Kindness ~ Help Decide Where We Donate

In line with the mission of Enlightened Arts, Shelley Frost will donate a portion of her personal proceeds from the sale of her children's book, I See Kindness Everywhere, to community charities.

Which charity should Shelley donate to in 2011? This will apply to a percentage of general proceeds up to December 31, 2011. We invite you to take our poll below and help us decide. Please vote only once. Extended descriptions of the charities follow the poll.

For 2010, Shelley is able to make a donation to The Winter Nights Shelter Program, which garnered 34.62% of the vote. Thank you to everyone who bought a book and voted! And of course, please consider making a direct contribution to these compassionate programs.

  • Central Asia Institute is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Founded by Greg Mortenson, a climber-turned-humanitarian whose story is told in the #1 New York Times Bestseller Three Cups of Tea: One Man’s Mission to Promote Peace, One School At A Time, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.

  • The Sunshine Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization whose sole purpose is to answer the dreams of chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children ages three to eighteen, whose families cannot fulfill their requests due to the financial strain that the child's illness may cause.

  • The Winter Nights Shelter Program organizes, funds, and operates under the auspices of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County to provide temporary nighttime shelter from mid-October to the end of April for families with children and elders capable of self-care who are experiencing homelessness in Contra Costa County. The program will serve up to 30 persons at any given time; participants must be willing to work toward self-sufficiency and permanent housing. Congregations throughout central and east Contra Costa County provide space, meals, and volunteers. Bedding is provided, and professional staff supervise the shelter 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
